You know that phone number linked to your bank account?

The one that receives:

👉 OTP codes
👉 Debit alerts
👉 Account updates

What if I tell you…

👉 You can only change it once in your lifetime?

Yes… once 😅

🏦 What’s going on?

The Central Bank of Nigeria has introduced new BVN rules.

And this one is serious 👀

😳 First shock: You can only change your BVN phone number ONCE

Before:

👉 You could update your number multiple times

Now:

One change. That’s all.

😬 What this means:

  • If you lose access to that number after changing it…
    👉 You might struggle to access your account

  • You must be very sure before updating it

⚠️ Second shock: Your BVN can be temporarily blocked

If your bank notices anything suspicious…

👉 Your BVN can be placed on a 24-hour watchlist

😳 During that time:

  • Transactions may be delayed

  • Transfers may not go through

  • Bank will try to contact you

💡 Why?

👉 To stop fraud before money disappears

🚫 Third shock: No BVN for under 18 again

Now:

Only people 18 years and above can register for BVN

🤔 Meaning:

  • No more BVN for minors

  • Kids must use accounts under parents/guardians

🔐 Fourth change: BVN data is now tightly controlled

Before:

👉 Some people used third parties to fix BVN issues

Now:

Only banks and licensed institutions can handle it

😬 So:

  • No shortcuts again

  • Everything must go through proper channels

📋 Fifth change: Stricter KYC and data checks

Banks are now under pressure to ensure:

👉 Your details are correct
👉 Your identity is consistent

😳 If not?

  • Account restrictions

  • Loan issues

  • Delays in transactions
