You Use POS Almost Every Day… But Something Is About to Change ๐ณ
You walk to a POS agent…
“₦10,000 withdrawal”
They type… print receipt… you collect cash ๐ธ
Simple. Normal. Everyday life.
But what if I tell you…
๐ The way POS works in Nigeria is about to change?
And this time…
๐ It will affect BOTH you and the agent ๐
๐ฆ What’s going on?
The Central Bank of Nigeria has introduced new rules for POS (agent banking).
Not small changes o…
๐ Serious ones ๐
๐ณ First shock: Your POS agent can no longer run multiple terminals
You know how one agent uses:
OPay
Moniepoint
PalmPay
All at once?
๐ That is ending.
Now:
One agent = One provider
๐ค What this means:
Some agents will drop certain terminals
You may not find your preferred POS easily
Competition might reduce in some areas
๐ Second shock: POS machines can’t move around again
Before:
๐ Agents could carry POS anywhere
Now:
Every POS must stay within its registered location (about 10 meters)
๐ฌ Meaning:
No more “mobile POS” moving up and down
If it leaves that area… it can be blocked instantly
๐ธ Third shock: There are now withdrawal limits
Let’s say you want to withdraw money…
๐ New limits:
₦100,000 per day
₦500,000 per week
๐ฉ So if:
You need large cash urgently…
๐ POS might not help you like before
๐ช For agents… it gets even stricter
Agents now must:
Use a dedicated account (no personal account again)
Register with Corporate Affairs Commission
Operate from a proper physical location (at least a kiosk)
๐ณ If not?
๐ They can be shut down
๐ซ Not everyone can even become a POS agent again
Before:
๐ Almost anyone could start POS
Now:
If you have bad loan history ❌
If your BVN is flagged ❌
๐ You’re not allowed
⏱️ One good news though
If you have issues like:
Failed transaction
Wrong debit
๐ Complaints must now be resolved in 7 days (instead of 14)
๐คจ So why is CBN doing all this?
Simple:
๐ Too much fraud
๐ Too many untraceable transactions
๐ Too many “random” POS setups
So now the focus is:
Cleaner system
More control
Less fraud
๐ The reality for YOU
Let’s be honest…
You may start noticing:
Longer queues at POS
Fewer agents around
Withdrawal limits affecting you
But also:
Safer transactions ✅
Less fraud risk ✅
๐ง Final thought
POS has become part of daily life in Nigeria…
From:
๐ Buying fuel
๐ Sending money
๐ Withdrawing cash
Now the system is being “tightened”
So next time your POS agent says:
“I don’t do that again”
Or
“There’s limit now”
Just know…
๐ It’s not just them
๐ The system itself has changed ๐ถ
